Kitchen Project Timing

Recently, I met with a young client who is building their new home.  They were not sure on the overall look, the finishes, or the appliances, but they knew one thing.  They want to have their project completed by Monday May 18, a week before Memorial Day.  Let's review their Kitchen Project Timing, working backwards:

May 11 Punchlist - This week is dedicated to any of those small unfinished items; perhaps a missing handle, door that needs adjustment, installing the toe kick once the wood floors have received their 3rd coat of poly.

May 4th Backsplash & Appliances - Backsplash tiles can have 6-8 week lead time.  These should be arriving at this point and getting installed, with stain proof grout.  Appliances should be delivered and be hooked up.  Any decorative appliance panels and their handles need to be installed.

April 27th Countertops - The countertop selection was made with the cabinet selection and the material was located.  Now we can template and install the stone/quartz a week later.

April 6th Cabinetry Install - The cabinetry order has arrived at the delivery agent and is being delivered to your site.  The installer is ready to go, since the floors are down, walls may even have the primer painted.

March 2nd Cabinetry Order – The cabinetry has a 4 week lead time, plus a week to leave the factory and go to the delivery agent.  Special finishes, cabinetry promotions and holiday shut downs can add to this lead time.  It is very important to make decisions in a timely manner.  All appliances and countertops options need to be selected.

Once the home is framed, the designer can measure for the cabinetry. Design time can take from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the complexity of the plan.  Bring any images from magazines or from the internet to get started.
