Bathroom Remodeling - Case Study

Written by Dianne Aucello | Jun 7, 2011 8:46:00 PM

This is a case study of a recent family bathroom remodeling.  This project took about 6 weeks and cost below $15,000.

This dated bath lacked storage, as well as plumbing issues, such as the toilet wouldn't consistently flush and lav faucet leaked.  Floor tiles and grout were cracked.

The shower head had been leaking as well.  This shower enclosure lacked style and storage space for the numerous products for their teenage daughter.  It was clearly time for a bathroom remodel.

The new cherry vanity has 2 offset drawers with soft close drawer glides for additional storage.  At 36" high, the countertop is an Italian limestone with an under mount sink and center lav faucet.  The new toilet meets strict water conservation standards.  A lighted magnifying mirror is wall mounted, to keep the countertop space clean.  Chrome is the most economical accessory finish.

The new shower features stain resistant porcelain ceramic tiles on the floor and walls, and stain resistant grout.  A rounded shower curtain rod allow for more elbow room.  The shampoo shelves were made from remnants of the countertop.

This 30" wide medicine cabinet by Maax Collection has an off center seam for the doors, mirrored interior and glass shelves.  The unit can therefore be centered on the wall, without the door seam directly in front of you.

A finishing touch included the threshold also made from the countertop material.

The final piece of this project was hooking up to the city's sewer system and off the home's septic system.  This work was was performed successfully by Tim Zanelli Excavating, at www.timzanelliexcavating.net.
