How to Select Kitchen Cabinets - Cabinetry Finishes
Kitchen Design & Remodeling Blog
If you are designing your new kitchen with an island sink, make sure you understand if you need a bow vent, or your kitchen may not pass inspection. I received this email the other day from homeowner:
Kitchen tables have been part of American culture for decades; some of us remember the nightly meat and potato dinner ready at 5:30pm. While the style of cooking has mostly changed along with our life style, the concept of everyone getting together once during the day remains. A kitchen table is a great place for dinner for these early summer nights, when the sports programs have wound down and the days have become longer. When choosing your kitchen table, consider these kitchen table options: a freestanding table or a table mounted from an island.
Installing cabinetry is not as difficult as one would imagine, although it will take longer than they show on tv remodeling shows! With the proper tools, preparation and the instructions below, a kitchen can be installed over a long weekend.
This project is for a Boston condo with a very small kitchen. Measuring almost 6'x 8', there is very little storage, and tiny amounts of counter top space. The wall cabinets were 30" high, with a sheet rocked soffit above. Water had ruined the particle board sink base cabinet. It was a very uninviting space, practically punishment to make a meal.
Banquettes have been built in many of my kitchen designs, mostly due to the space they save because unlike a kitchen table, you do not need walk space all around it. This isn't a new idea, banquettes are available at most restaurants. Most diners prefer them, and typically only sit at the tables once the booths are filled. This will be the same feeling in your home.
When another drawer front has pulled away from its drawer box, you realize that it is time to renovate your kitchen, but how do you get started? Most people haven't examined their own or other's kitchens until this point. First, get together with your family & understand what is & isn't currently working in your space.
