Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

This Arlington home was built in the early 1900's with a horrible kitchen.  The clients wanted to update their kitchen to gain more counter top space and have the ability to entertain.  Construction included recapturing a corner area of their kitchen to complete an L shaped configuration.

A Modern farmhouse style was chosen to fit in their old home but with the updated look of today.  The white inset cabinets by Great Northern Cabinetry provide a light and clean look, with glass upper doors visually opening the long wall space of cabinetry.  While some clients shy away from glass doors, this clear glass makes it easier to find what you are looking for.  They don't get messy since the dishes and glasses naturally stack nicely.  These cabinets have a simple flat panel door, inset style, with decorative toe kicks to create the look of furniture pieces.

This food pantry space includes a marble top to store the toaster, keeping it off the main counter space and out of sight.  Can racks on the doors keep these smaller items organized and easy to locate.

This one of a kind furniture island is used for a prep table, to eat meals, and to gather at parties.  The warm wood tone of the island compliments the warm wood floor and rustic brick fireplace.

Other finishes include the black handles providing a sharp contrast to the lighter finishes.  Carrara marble counter tops add to the refined look.  There was a life time sealer applied to the marble to save the home owner the yearly task of resealing.  It will also help protect this softer stone from staining.  Other farmhouse features include the farmhouse sink, industrial clear glass pendants and the simple subway tile.
