5 Bathroom Design Features to Include in Your Remodel

Bathroom Design Features

When it comes to designing your dream bathroom, there are so many features and styles to consider. As experienced designers who have been in the business for over 30 years, we know exactly what design features make homeowners really happy. In this article, we will be sharing our top 5 bathroom design features that we highly recommend including in your future bathroom remodel.

Our clients have trusted and loved these features for years, and we're confident that you will too!

1. Heated Floors

When thinking about a luxury bathroom experience, most people immediately think of a freestanding, soaking tub or a huge, tiled shower. While those are undoubtedly great features that we fully support, stepping out of those onto a cold tile floor will undoubtedly diminish your at-home spa experience.

If you're already considering replacing your bathroom flooring during your remodel, we highly recommend taking it to the next level and adding heat to your floor.   Heated floors offer a level of comfort that is hard to beat. They can instantly make your bathroom feel warm and cozy, making your morning routine much more enjoyable. Plus, our clients agree that they're an incredible addition that they wish they had done sooner!

2. Shower Niche

A custom-tiled shower is undoubtedly a gorgeous feature to have in your bathroom, but one that doesn't come with a dedicated space for storing your shower products is not a great move. Adding a niche for storage in your shower is an absolute no-brainer! A niche can accommodate the height and number of products you typically keep in the shower, plus extra room for overflow.

Additionally, it also offers an opportunity to introduce extra style into your shower with a contrasting accent tile or design. As you can probably tell, we absolutely love a well-thought-out shower niche!

3. Handheld Sprayer

Handheld sprayers are an incredibly useful addition to your new shower, yet they're often overlooked in the design process. Nowadays, there are so many aesthetically pleasing designs to choose from, and we believe that you simply cannot go wrong with adding one to your shower. Not only are they great to have for cleaning the shower or for rinsing off your pets, but they're also perfect for rinsing off your legs after shaving.

Furthermore, a handheld sprayer can come in handy if someone in your home ever injures themselves or if you're making your home your "forever home." We know this isn't necessarily a glamorous reason to add a handheld sprayer to your shower, but we think that having the option to shower safely no matter what life throws at you is incredibly important.

4. Quality Plumbing Fixtures

While we love a good-looking faucet, it's important to not judge plumbing fixtures based solely on their looks. The inner components are vital to how long your fixtures will function and last.

Poorly made fixtures often have plastic gaskets and other pieces inside that quickly break down, which can affect water flow and other performance features. Investing in high-quality plumbing fixtures can make a significant difference in the longevity and functionality of your bathroom.

5. Adequate Lighting

Last but certainly not least, lighting is crucial when it comes to designing your bathroom. Proper lighting can make a small space feel larger, and it can also set the mood for your entire experience. When selecting lighting for your bathroom, consider a combination of overhead lighting and task lighting.

We spend a significant portion of our time in the bathroom. From brushing our teeth in the morning to unwinding in a bubble bath at night, it's a place that can set the tone for our entire day or night. When it comes time to design your bathroom, contact us to elevate your experience.
