Seven Golden Rules of Bathroom Design

Bathroom Design

We spend more time than we think in our bathrooms, and for this reason, it's a good idea to ensure that your bathroom looks and feels as comfortable as possible. So whether you're designing a bathroom or redesigning it, here are seven golden rules to abide by.

Create Ample Storage Space

Many people underestimate the number of items that we store in our bathrooms. From toiletries to cleaners to hairstyling equipment and more, you want to ensure there is plenty of shelving and cabinet space available so that the items you use regularly as easily accessible.  By determining what you plan to store in your new bathroom before the design plan is developed, you can be sure to incorporate the exact amount of space you need in advance.

Don't Forget Natural Light

Nothing can be more drab and depressing than a room devoid of any natural light, and bathrooms are notorious for this. It's a good idea to ensure the room includes at least one window, and if you want to get fancy, then adding a skylight is a great idea.

Don't Overcrowd Your Bathroom

When you're in the planning stage, you might have many different ideas for making your bathroom perfect, but you must realize that there are limitations. This is especially true if your bathroom is on the smaller side, so if you want a Jacuzzi and a shower in your bathroom but it won't fit both, you may have to put the Jacuzzi on the back deck or someplace else.

Choose a Pleasing and Relaxing Color Scheme

Since people often relax while they're in the bathroom, ensuring that you opt for colors that promote relaxation is important. Perhaps you can settle for your favorite color, so every time you use the bathroom you will feel comforted, or you can choose another color that works. There are plenty of colors that go great in bathrooms, so take your time and choose accordingly. If you live with others, allow them to have some input and you're sure to create the perfect colors in your bathroom.

Think About Who Will Be Using the Bathroom

If your home has just one bathroom, then designing it with everyone in the household in mind is a good idea. However, if you have two or more bathrooms, then obviously the design for a master bathroom is going to be different than a guest one that's rarely used. In other words, if you're designing a master bath, then you're going to make sure it has all the amenities necessary to ensure your comfort and convenience. The guest bathroom will likely be as basic as possible.

Consider Your Budget

One of the very first things that you need to consider when designing a bathroom is how much you can afford to comfortably spend on the project. Once you've determined your budget, then you can begin the designing process. Don't fret if your budget isn't as high as you'd like it, because our expert designers can work wonders with just about any budget.

Make Certain Your Bathroom Works for You

Don't look at bathrooms in a catalog or magazine and expect yours to be easily transformed into those. You want a bathroom to be comfortable and have a homey feel to it, but if you opt for a bathroom from a catalog it could end up feeling more like a bathroom at your doctor's office.

It can be tricky to design the perfect bathroom, as there are so many ways you can go about doing it. As long as you follow these 7 golden rules of bathroom design, your bathroom project should come out perfectly.  Contact us today so we can help your design project come out successfully.
