If you're planning a [kitchen remodel in 2022](https://www.edesiakbs.com/kitchen-designer), here are some of the latest ideas and design trends to consider. ## Large island Many kitchen designers are recommending adding a kitchen island. This can open up your space and provide additional countertop and storage space. A large island can be a great addition to your kitchen if you have a room. It's perfect for entertaining and extra storage and prep space. ## New luxe appliances Finally, indulging in new luxe appliances is also a popular [trend for 2022](https://www.countryliving.com/home-design/decorating-ideas/g3988/kitchen-trends/). If your budget allows, consider upgrading to high-end appliances like a professional-grade range or refrigerator. These appliances can transform your kitchen and make cooking and entertaining more enjoyable. Homeowners are choosing to paint their cabinets, walls, and even appliances to give their kitchen a new look. [Painting](https://www.thespruce.com/painting-the-kitchen-1822118) is an easy and inexpensive way to update your kitchen without doing a complete remodel. ## New hardware cabinets and drawers Replacing dated hardware is an easy and inexpensive way to update your kitchen. This can be as simple as replacing old knobs and pulls with new ones or installing new hinges. If your cabinets look worn and tired, installing new hardware is also a great way to give them a quick facelift. In addition to updating the style of your kitchen, new hardware can also provide improved function. For example, installing soft-close hinges on cabinets helps prevent them from slamming shut, and adding drawer dividers can help keep things organized.  ## Replacing cabinet doors If you're looking for something more substantial, you can also replace your cabinet doors with new ones. This is a great way to update the look of your kitchen without spending a lot of money. ## Using two-toned cabinetry This trend involves pairing light and dark colors for a dramatic effect. For example, you might pair white upper cabinets with dark walnut or espresso lower cabinets. Or you could use light gray cabinets with a rich navy blue island. ## Mixed materials Incorporating different materials such as wood, glass, or metal can add texture and interest to your kitchen. For example, you might pair stainless steel appliances with glass backsplashes and wooden countertops. Or you could use frosted glass panels to conceal your dishwasher or fridge. ## Hidden appliances Hidden appliances are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners strive for a sleek, unified look. Concealing your dishwasher, fridge, or stove behind cabinets or panels gives your kitchen a clean, streamlined appearance. ## Open shelving Open shelving is a popular kitchen [remodeling trend ](https://www.forbes.com/sites/deringhall/2018/04/04/these-kitchen-design-trends-will-inspire-your-next-project/?sh=758b2d4b532a)that offers both form and function. By removing upper cabinets, open shelving creates an airy and open feel in the kitchen. It also provides an opportunity to showcase your favorite dishes and collectibles. ## Bold backsplashes Another kitchen remodeling trend in 2022 is the use of bold backsplashes. A colorful or patterned backsplash can make your kitchen pop and add a touch of personality. Backsplashes also protect your walls from splashes and stains, making them easier to clean. ## Statement lighting Eye-catching light fixtures can highlight certain areas of your kitchen or create a unique ambiance. ## Sticking to one splurge Another trend is splurging on a single item, such as new countertops. Marble is a popular choice for its beauty and durability.
